State of Michigan approved driver education programs designed to take teens from first-time learners to confident, licensed drivers. All classes are in-person.
Segment 1
Segment 1 is the required first step in Michigan's graduated driver licensing program. Students receive in-person classroom instruction covering the fundamentals of safe driving, Michigan traffic laws, road signs, and defensive driving strategies. This course lays the groundwork for everything that follows.

Requirements
Students must be at least 14 years and 8 months old to enroll. Age is verified at registration.

Certificate of completion required to obtain a Level 1 learner's permit

Behind-the-Wheel (BTW)
Behind-the-Wheel training puts students in the driver's seat with a certified instructor by their side. This in-person, hands-on course builds real-world driving skills through supervised practice on actual roads — from neighborhood streets to highway driving.

Requirements
Must have completed Segment 1 and hold a valid Level 1 learner's permit.
Outcome
Required to advance toward a Level 2 restricted license

Segment 2
Segment 2 is the final in-person classroom course before a teen can apply for a full Level 2 restricted license. Students build on what they learned in Segment 1 and BTW, focusing on advanced driving scenarios, night driving, adverse weather conditions, and responsible decision-making. Fall 2026 dates: Aug 18, 19, 20 — 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

Must be at least 16 years old and have held a Level 1 permit for at least 3 months after completing BTW.

Common Questions
Are all classes in-person?
Yes — all of our courses are conducted in-person. Segment 1 and Segment 2 take place in our classroom, and Behind-the-Wheel training is conducted in an actual vehicle with a certified instructor.
Do I need to take the courses in order?
Yes. Michigan's graduated licensing program requires students to complete Segment 1 first, then Behind-the-Wheel, and finally Segment 2 before applying for a Level 2 restricted license.
What age do I need to be to start?
Students must be at least 14 years and 8 months old to enroll in Segment 1. Segment 2 requires students to be at least 16 years old.
